Guest Speaker – Heritage in our Suburbs

Part of the charm of Epping is its suburban streets with many fine examples of interwar architecture and landscapes. The inner ring of streets closest to the Town Centre are part of a number of Heritage Conservation Areas in an attempt to preserve these examples of Sydney living. But with the rapid pace of development, the push to sub divide and maximise return from large blocks, and changing tastes, is this heritage under threat? Should it be preserved? What does it add to our community and culture?

The Trust is delighted to welcome guest speaker Carol Liston. Adjunct Associate Professor Carol Liston AO is a former president of the Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS). She taught Australian history, local history and heritage at Western Sydney University for many years. Her investigations into colonial people and places includes a particular interest in female convicts.

Carol has also been a long term member of Parramatta Council’s Heritage Advisory Committee since its inception in the late 1990s so she is very well versed in the challenges facing council in areas such as Epping.

This is a free public meeting, open to all.
