ON EXHIBITION UNTIL 7 DECEMBER 2020 - CONCEPT PLAN FOR NEW POOLS AT DENCE PARK
In 2019, the City of Parramatta concluded a lengthy masterplan process for the entire Dence Park site. This includes the creative centre and proposed park areas, but the first stage is to revitalise and expand the Aquatic Centre (originally built in the 1950s and poorly maintained when managed by Hornsby Council in recent years).
It's great to see Parramatta Council push on with this project and they have committed over $23 million to it. This is funding from developer contributions for the high rise developments around Epping and marks the first major community infrastructure project from these new residential areas.
See more at https://participate.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/dencepark and you can find out more at virtual Q & A with council on Wed 25th Nov between 6 and 7pm.
Good points are:
👍 New 8 lane, full 50 metre outdoor pool
👍 New indoor multi use 25 metre pool (Not just a learn to swim facility - but something that can be used by public)
👍 New air bridge from car park and lift access to pool deck
👍 New change facilities and reception area
👍 New grassed picnic areas where toddler pools are now
Not so good is:
👎 No children's splash/wading pool area due to lack of funds. That is just crazy! This should be funded and completed with the main pool work
👎 No gym or cafe - both were promised in the Masterplan that council spent $500k on. Big fail.
👎 Existing grandstand just refurbed - it is too small for the growing local school population and hosting school carnivals
Have your say by 9am on 7 December. We suggest making email submission, NOT doing the council survey (which is usually slanted to get the answers they want!).
